Ó Pheann an Mháistir

Anois teacht an Earraigh beidh an lá ag dul chun shíneadh” – the famous line from the poet Ó Raifteirí sums up the present Season, the lengthening day and the hope that is part of the beautiful months in the lead up to Easter and the Summer. As ever St. Annin’s is a hive of Spring activity as we come to the end of the second term on Friday 07 April.

Our school Open Evening takes place on Thursday 06 April from 6:30pm to 8pm. We invite all families living in the area to visit the school and to view the facilities and the children’s work. We are currently finalising our Junior Infant Enrolment for September 2017 and we ask you our current parent body to ensure that all new families in the area with school age children are made aware of the Open Evening and the school contact details to arrange enrolment.

The last few months have culminated in many events including a very successful Book Fair in February, resulting in €1,585 worth of books becoming available to the school, SkipnRope activity last week for all classes, Tom Cuffe – ‘The Birdman’ paying us a visit, Kay Synott returning to help with the Garden, Library Trips, new ICT equipment for our classroom (and more to come), FAI  5 -a-side soccer in Drum East, Gaelic Football training after school on Wednsdays , imeachtaí Seachtain na Gaelilge, and the Confirmation preparation programme – You Shall be My Witness.

The Daffodil Day Collection on Friday 24  March was generously supported and The Irish Cancer Society convey their gratitude to the school community for the €760 raised and donated to this worthy cause.

Our boys Basketball Team achieved a number of remarkable victories in the  National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on Friday last and captured the U12 Dublin Schools Championship with Ms. Greene as Coach – maith sibh.

Our Second pupils are preparing for their First Penance on Wednesday 05 April ahead of their Holy Communion on 23 May and Sixth Class are also preparing diligently for their Confirmation on 03 May.

We also remember the former Principal Mr. John O’ Callaghan RIP, who served the school community in Rosscahill as teacher and Principal from 1978 to 2014. You are cordially invited to a Tree Planting Ceremony in the school garden on Friday 31 March at 1:15pm.

We will host a Fundraising Cake Sale for India Broderick, a past pupil currently studying for a Nursing Degree in N.U.I.G. who is travelling to Tanzania in July to do voluntary work.

School closes on Friday 07 April at 12 noon and returns on Monday 24 April.

Please look out for our new Facebook page and our revamped website (http://www.stannins.ie).

Wishing you all a pleasant and restful Easter.
