This year the children from 2nd class at St Annin’s took part in the FIRST LEGO League Jr. programme which culminated in an exhibition at the Radisson Blu hotel on 04 April. St Annin’s is one of just 15 schools in Galway City and County involved in the programme which is designed to introduce STEM concepts to kids ages 6 to 10 while exciting them through a brand they know and love − LEGO®.

Through the programme 2nd class children explored the real-world scientific problem of animal protection which was the theme of this year’s challenge: ‘Creature Craze’. Then they created Show Me posters that illustrated their journey of discovery and introduced their team. They also constructed 6 motorised models of inventions to protect animals facing a threat using LEGO elements.

The programme promotes teamwork, the wonders of science and technology, and the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Core Values, which include respect, sharing, and critical thinking.

On 04 April, all 15 participating Galway schools came together at an exhibition to strut their stuff, share ideas, celebrate, and have fun!

Well done to 2nd class and their teachers for their wonderful displays and interviews on the night!
