May 2017 Parent Note

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The school will be closed on Tuesday next May 9th (as previously advised) to facilitate Teacher In service training in the new Primary Language Curriculum.

Congratulations to our Confirmation Class and to their teacher Múinteoir Losita on the occasion of the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation on Wednesday last May 3rd. The class prepared diligently for the day and engaged in a splendid Confirmation preparation Retreat at the Redemptorist centre in Esker on April 26th.

The school wishes to convey gratitude to our Parish Priest Canon Moran and to the Diocesan Administrator Canon Michael McLoughlin who administered the Sacrament to our Class. A special word of thanks also to the Killannin Parish Choir, the Altar Society and all who prepared the Church and the grounds for the special day. A special focal buíochas to the parents of 5th Class who prepared the party afterward  in the Community Centre.

The sunny weather added greatly to the day and we wish our Pupils every success in their future lives and ask the Holy Spirit to be with them as they journey through life.

Our 5th and 6th Class girls are taking part in the group games of the Cumann na mBunscol Gaillimh 2017 Championship at Belclare N.S, Tuam with a scheduled date of May 30th for the county finals at Loughgeorge if we advance today.

The boys Cumann na mBunscol Championship 2017 commences on May 22nd in Salthill for our group games with the county Finals scheduled for June 1st in Loughgeorge also.

We are currently finalising a date with our neighbouring schools for the annual Niall Kinnevey Cup and the Gillian Lydon Cup which will take place in Killannin G.A.A grounds in the near future.

Our Junior and Senior Infant Classes and First Class enjoyed a successful trip to  Westside Library recently and greatly benefitted from the experience.

Rang a 3 visited historic Aughnanure Castle in Oughterard and enjoyed learning about the history of the Castle.

Preparations continue for our First Holy Communion Mass on May 27th and annual school tours are being organised at this time also.

Final payment of Family Invoices are kindly requested by Mid-May. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The school Calendar for 2017/2018 is available to be viewed on our website

Please ensure that any outstanding Junior Infant Enrolment forms are returned to the office during the week ahead.
